Shauna: I did want to win badly

October 12, 2007, 11:17am

The last babe of the show, Shauna Simon, has finally been given the boot, together with the adorable gang of “characters from Harry Potter”, Revalina at this week’s Live the Dream.

This week’s theme was Let’s Party, and contestants got to boogie to their favourite Party songs. But there wasn’t gonna be a celebration, not at this Party anyway as soloist Shauna Simon and every mummy’s favourite group Revalina went home this week.

Shauna: I did want to win badly
Though Shauna gave a brilliant performance, totally blowing the audience away with her second song especially, If I’m Not In Love by Faith Hill, specially chosen for her by judges Ken Lim and Dick Lee, her votes were still not enough to rival that of Victor Tang’s or Fendi’s.

Shauna was told by the judges that she looked distracted and unfocused during the show. Judge Dick also said that she has the most potential, with a good chance to develop her singing career but she did not seem to want to win the competition.

In defense of herself, Shauna felt that Dick is entitled to his own opinion. But what she had tried to do was to stay calm and perhaps that came across as a lack of desire to win.

“Not being a nervous wreck like I always am could have come across to him as I didn’t want to win the competition badly. If I didn’t want to, I would not have put my full-time job on hold for this,” Shauna pointed out.

However hard she could have wanted to win, her voters did not work hard enough for her to stay on in the competition. At least not as hard as Victor’s fans anyway. The forums are rife with unhappy comments that Victor does not deserve to be in the Grand Finals. How does Shauna feel about the entire issue?

“I know it’s a sensitive question but I will answer it as honestly as I can. I feel that people shouldn’t get personal – it is a competition and everybody has equal rights to join. It is important to have a loyal fanbase and I feel that people in the finals should go all out and get as many fans as possible. Those lagging behind, they really need to be more thick-skinned!”

Shauna went on to defend Victor, calling him ‘a really a nice guy’ and that he should not be held as the whipping boy. In the end, she said, it all boiled down to the voters.

“If the people are unhappy with the vote, then they should vote more for the person they think they deserve to win in the finals. It’s not easy for anyone to go through so much criticism every week and one comment from the judge can already make you feel very lousy. I think that Victor’s really strong to take all that and not let them shake his determination.”

You’ll not see the last of Revalina
Disappointed about the results? Nah. This group of lovable guys feels more for their fans than themselves!

“We didn’t really feel so much of a disappointment, as we didn’t actually expect to get to this stage. I feel sad more for the fans, they’re so into this. I feel disappointed for them, not really for myself,” lead vocalist Naza opined.

The boys felt that they have already done their best for the competition which at times, tested their friendship whenever they have arguments over the choice of songs.

With different tastes in songs, Naza admitted that they have had disagreements on what songs to perform, though ultimately they tried to get everything resolved before every performance.

“It’s not a big thing. We always have to talk things through, but for me, being the lead vocalist, I have to reason with them why I prefer this song over the other, because I know my type of vocals and I know what I can do best.”

Conflicts or not, the boys are still sticking together, and we are very likely to be seeing them more in the future. Refusing to name his sources, Naza said that there are already invitations for them to perform at places. Not forgetting their fans, Naza said that they wish to “let the fans know that we are still there”.

Live The Dream will take a break next week but will return on Oct 24 for the Grand Finals where the final four Fendi, Victor, By Definition and CatsineCradle will battle it out. At stake is $100, 000 cash ($40,000 for soloist and $60,000 for group) plus a concert showcase. If you have been missing the eliminated contestants, fret not as they will return to perform in the finals.

Will By Definition’s hard work to outperform themselves every week finally pay off? Or will CatsineCradle, with their soulful voices croon their way to voters’ heart? Victor versus Fendi – who will the ultimate soloist be? Will the finals become a controversy? All the excitement and tension, you wouldn’t want to miss the much-anticipated Grand Finals on Oct 24, Wed, 8pm & 10pm on Channel 5!
